Adapting Legal Education for the AI Era: Insights from Recent Survey – Artificial Lawyer

A recent survey by LexisNexis and ALITA highlights the urgent need for reform in legal education due to the rise of AI in law. Only 15% of lawyers believe current law school structures should remain unchanged. Nearly 74% advocate for educational reforms to better prepare future lawyers for AI applications. Respondents emphasized the importance of upskilling current lawyers and developing AI-focused curricula. The report, co-authored by Professor Brian Tang, underscores the inadequacy of traditional teaching methods, advocating for an integration of AI literacy, legal tech, and ethics in the curriculum. Corporate in-house lawyers are particularly supportive of reform. However, a question remains: can law schools effectively provide this specialized training? Collaborations with legal firms and tech experts could bridge this gap. For deeper insights, join the free webinar “Are Lawyers Learning AI Fast Enough?” on September 23, and consider attending the Legal Innovators Conferences in London and New York in November 2025.
