Admins Gain Ability to Uninstall Microsoft Copilot on Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, and EDU—Specific Device Requirements Apply

Microsoft has introduced a new feature for Windows Insiders, allowing administrators to uninstall the Microsoft Copilot App on managed devices. This change, highlighted in the Windows Insider Blog, is available for systems running Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7535 (KB5072046) from the Dev & Beta Channels. The policy, named RemoveMicrosoftCopilotApp, can only be applied under specific conditions: both Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Copilot must be installed, the app must not have been user-installed, and it must not have been launched in the past 28 days. Additionally, because the Microsoft Copilot app has “Auto start on log in” enabled by default, users may find meeting the criteria challenging. Despite this, admins can use the Group Policy Editor to remove the app, and users can easily reinstall it if desired. This change may appeal to those who prefer not to use AI tools, aligning with trends from Intel and Dell regarding consumer preferences.
