Adobe has quietly launched a promising work-in-progress camera app for iPhones as part of its Indigo Project, aimed at enhancing smartphone photography. The app, available for free on the Apple App Store, offers extensive manual controls, allowing users to shoot in both JPEG and raw formats. Unlike traditional smartphone camera apps, Indigo captures and combines multiple frames (up to 32) for reduced noise and improved dynamic range, though it requires more patience after pressing the shutter. It emphasizes preserving natural textures, a feature not common in other apps. Additionally, it can output DNG files, which maintain high quality while being smaller. The app integrates seamlessly with Adobe’s ecosystem, like Lightroom and Photoshop, but can also be used with other editing tools. While still in its early stages, Adobe plans to introduce more features, including an Android version. Users are encouraged to provide feedback to refine the app further.
