Sridhar Vembu, co-founder and chief scientist of Zoho Corporation, recently discussed how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming software development, particularly in user interface (UI) work. He emphasized AI’s role as a productivity enhancer, enabling engineers to produce results more rapidly without relinquishing human oversight. Although Zoho integrates AI coding tools across teams, Vembu clarified that usage is voluntary, allowing engineers to decide how to implement these technologies. Notably, an experienced engineer reportedly reduced a three-week feature development cycle to just one day, exemplifying AI’s ability to accelerate project timelines when combined with expertise. Additionally, junior engineers benefit from AI’s support, as demonstrated by one who successfully developed an internal tool with AI assistance. Vembu expressed optimism about AI’s growing significance in UI development, indicating that AI-driven workflows are likely to become the norm, while stressing that human judgment remains crucial in the coding process.
