AI Content Transparency: Issue #261 · WICG/Proposals · GitHub

Navigating AI Content Disclosure: A Step Forward

As AI technology evolves, the need for clear disclosure in AI-generated content becomes crucial. Currently, there is no standard protocol to disclose the level of AI involvement in web pages.

Key Challenges:

  • Existing methods only allow disclosures at the page or HTTP response level.
  • Critical sections often remain unmarked, leaving users misinformed.

Proposed Solution:

A groundbreaking HTML attribute, ai-disclosure, allows for detailed element-level marking, with values such as:

  • none
  • ai-assisted
  • ai-generated
  • autonomous

Why This Matters:

  • Complies with the EU AI Act Article 50, effective August 2026.
  • Enhances transparency and trust in digital content.

This innovative approach not only simplifies user understanding but also aligns with evolving regulations.
