AI-Driven Crowd Monitoring Tool Developed in Response to Sabarimala Stampede Tragedy

Malayali researchers have patented an innovative AI surveillance system capable of detecting hazardous crowd patterns in real time, aimed at preventing tragedies similar to the 2011 Pullumedu stampede at Sabarimala. The system, the NEXARIS (Next Gen Agenting Realtime Vision and Intelligence System for Large Scale Monitoring), was developed by a team led by Dr. K Ramesh Babu and includes Dr. Preetha KG, Dr. Saritha S, and Binu A. This cutting-edge technology monitors crowd behavior, identifying unusual patterns and fluctuations in density. It also features AI-assisted facial recognition from submitted images, enabling the identification of individuals within the crowd. With a sophisticated camera and high-speed computation unit, the system analyzes video footage and provides instant alerts to authorities, allowing for timely interventions. As pilgrim numbers increase, this system enhances crowd management efforts, ensuring safety and efficient darshan flow at Sabarimala.
