AI: Enhancing Productivity in Common Jobs While Maintaining Quality

Share

A new study by Gabriel Weintraub from Stanford examines the potential of generative AI (GenAI) in Chile’s workforce, revealing it could significantly enhance productivity. The research shows that nearly 50% of tasks in the 100 most common jobs in Chile could be accelerated by GenAI, enabling workers to focus on higher-value tasks. Notably, 80% of Chilean jobs could see at least a 30% increase in efficiency, potentially adding around 12% to the country’s GDP. Roles such as software developers and policy specialists could see efficiency boosts of up to 87% and 84%, respectively. SMEs, which make up 65% of the workforce, also show promise, although they often lack the digital infrastructure to adopt AI effectively. The study emphasizes the importance of implementation, training, and supportive policies. For maximum impact, GenAI should target roles with high exposure and low friction, such as administrative tasks in schools and government.
