AI Tools Making Strides at FIU and Beyond

As artificial intelligence (AI) transforms higher education, tools like ChatGPT and Liner are becoming integral to academic life. While only 1% of FIU students have registered for Liner, its accuracy has positioned it as the leading AI search engine, surpassing competitors like ChatGPT 4.5. Liner’s U.S. head, Kyum Kim, emphasizes the importance of credible sources in knowledge generation, allowing educators to focus on creativity rather than rote tasks.

Educators like University of Michigan’s Assistant Professor Jaerock Kwon recognize AI’s significant impact on traditional assessments, advocating for responsible use. Kwon argues that AI should enhance, not hinder, learning, akin to past technological advancements like Google Search.

Both experts foresee a future where AI fosters project-based learning, working alongside human intelligence to address complex problems. With ongoing integration, AI’s role in academia will deepen, as tools like Liner aim to support reliable information access and innovative research.
