Experts emphasize that while AI can transform roles, it hasn’t significantly displaced workers. Companies, under pressure to cut costs amid economic uncertainties, are reallocating budgets from hiring to AI technologies. For instance, Shopify and Duolingo mandated teams to justify hiring over using AI. Notably, firms developing AI, like Microsoft, are also cutting jobs but often to offset investment costs rather than due to AI replacing roles. Overall, while AI is reshaping the workforce landscape, experts argue that economic factors remain the primary drivers of job changes rather than direct job replacement by automation.
