Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. (BABA) has launched significant upgrades to its Qwen AI app, enhancing user experience by enabling tasks like food delivery and travel bookings directly within the chat interface. These advancements, currently in public testing in China, allow for immediate transaction authorizations, aligning with a broader industry trend toward AI agents managing consumer tasks. The update integrates multiple Alibaba services, including Taobao, Alipay, and Fliggy, allowing seamless payments for instant commerce orders. Following recent competition from ByteDance and Tencent in the consumer AI space, Alibaba shifted focus from enterprise AI to consumer-facing applications. The new Task Assistant feature can perform tasks such as calling restaurants and organizing travel itineraries. In just two months post-launch, Qwen has attracted 100 million monthly active users. This strategic expansion highlights Alibaba’s commitment to innovating in China’s competitive AI landscape, attracting investor interest in its potential for user growth and monetization.
