Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has urged employees to embrace artificial intelligence (AI), highlighting its potential to reduce the corporate workforce in the coming years. In a memo, he discussed the efficiency gains expected from AI integration, suggesting that many jobs currently held by employees may become obsolete while new roles will emerge. Jassy acknowledged that the tech industry as a whole has been heavily investing in AI, which has the capability to perform mundane tasks traditionally done by human workers, especially in entry-level office positions. Industry experts, including Dario Amodei and Geoffrey Hinton, have warned of significant job losses due to AI advancements, questioning what new jobs would arise in place of those lost. As Amazon utilizes AI across its operations, Jassy emphasized that employees who adapt to these changes will be better positioned within the company’s evolving landscape. Currently, Amazon employs over 1.5 million people globally, with a significant portion in office roles.
