Amazon has launched a web version of its Alexa+ assistant, aiming to compete directly with ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Users can access a full chatbot interface by visiting Alexa.com, allowing interaction via keyboard and mouse, expanding its functionality beyond Echo devices and mobile apps. This web interface mimics modern AI chatbots, featuring a central chat box, suggested prompts, and synced chat history. Users can upload documents, manage calendars, and create shopping lists, enhancing productivity tasks that are difficult with voice commands. Though still in early stages, Alexa+ supports trip planning, document review, and letter writing, but lacks advanced features found in competitors. Currently, the service is accessible to selected users in Amazon’s early access program and is free during this phase, with plans to bundle it with Prime and charge non-Prime users about $20 monthly. Moreover, Alexa+ is being integrated into smart homes with features like Alexa+ Greetings for Ring doorbells, enhancing user experience.
