Many sellers are automatically enrolled, and those who wish to opt out must proactively contact Amazon. The listings often contain errors, creating potential business complications and reputational damage. Moreover, sellers face issues with existing contracts, as unauthorized listings can violate agreements with wholesale partners. Amazon defends the “Buy For Me” initiative as a means for customers to discover brands outside its marketplace and claims that sellers can opt out anytime. In response to unauthorized scraping, Shopify has introduced a policy to protect merchant websites, as Amazon seeks to regulate third-party AI shopping tools.
