South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) is innovating by piloting Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance operational efficiency and allow clinicians to assist more patients. At Emergency Operations Centres in Crawley and Medway, the AI tool transcribes conversations into “structured medical notes,” which clinicians will review to save time on documentation. Clinical operations manager Emma Webber emphasized that this technology aims to alleviate time-consuming administrative tasks, enabling staff to focus more on patient care. Secamb, covering regions including Sussex and Kent, is collaborating with Tortus, whose technology has been previously trialed at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Chief digital information officer Nick Roberts stated the initiative, concluding in February 2026, aligns with the ambulance service’s commitment to improving patient care through innovation. Tortus CEO Dr. Dominic Pimenta reassured that their AI tool undergoes rigorous testing to ensure audio accuracy and mitigate discrepancies. This strategic move highlights Secamb’s dedication to integrating innovative healthcare solutions.
