Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has launched MedSum, an AI-driven clinical assistant that transforms doctor-patient conversations into structured medical records, prescriptions, and multilingual patient summaries. Developed by the School of Artificial Intelligence, in collaboration with Amrita Hospitals and Amrita Technologies, MedSum reduces the documentation burden on doctors while enhancing patient comprehension of medical advice. The platform captures real-time consultations to generate hospital-ready clinical notes and offers simplified voice summaries in various Indian languages, catering to diverse patient needs. Dermatologist Dr. Sachin Gupta noted that documentation often detracts from patient interaction quality, and MedSum helps prioritize clinical care while ensuring accurate records. Prof. Kamal Bijlani, Dean of the School of Artificial Intelligence, highlighted that MedSum operates on BharatGen, India’s indigenous large language model, and has been validated in clinical environments. Currently in use across multiple departments at Amrita Hospitals, MedSum reflects Amrita’s commitment to integrating research, clinical practice, and technology in healthcare delivery.
