Recent analysis from Apptopia indicates that the growth of the ChatGPT mobile app may have peaked, as new global downloads and daily active users (DAUs) have notably slowed since April. Estimated month-over-month global downloads for October are projected to decline by 8.1%. While ChatGPT continues to achieve millions of daily installs, the stagnation in download growth hints at a broader slowdown, potentially influenced by rising competition from Google’s Gemini and shifts in user engagement after significant AI model updates.
Metrics show a 22.5% drop in average time spent per DAU and a 20.7% decrease in average sessions for U.S. users. This decline suggests users are integrating ChatGPT into their routines rather than exploring it fervently. For OpenAI to revitalize engagement, new features and targeted marketing strategies will be essential, as reliance on novelty is no longer sufficient for sustained growth.
