Anthropic, Microsoft, and OpenAI Launch Initiative to Train Educators in AI Integration

Share

Leading AI companies, including Anthropic, Microsoft, and OpenAI, are enhancing education in the U.S. by launching the National Academy for AI Instruction, a $23 million initiative announced by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). This program aims to train educators on safe and ethical AI implementation in classrooms. AFT President Randi Weingarten emphasizes that while technology cannot replace the teacher-student relationship, it can enhance teaching if properly harnessed. OpenAI is investing $10 million, Microsoft $12.5 million, and Anthropic $500,000 in the first year, with funding also supporting future hubs across the U.S. The fall courses will be held at the United Federation of Teachers’ Manhattan facility, offering free virtual training for AFT’s 1.8 million members, primarily K-12 educators. The goal is to train 400,000 teachers—10% of the U.S. workforce—over five years, ensuring they master AI tools for effective learning.
