Anthropic Surges Ahead of OpenAI in Intensifying Revenue Battle

Anthropic, the AI company supported by Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, has surpassed $30 billion in annualized revenue, overtaking OpenAI, according to Jefferies analysts. This remarkable growth included an addition of $21 billion in just three months, corresponding to more than one-third of Jefferies’ entire public software revenue growth for 2025. Anthropic’s expansion has partly originated from a deal with Google and Broadcom for 3.5 gigawatts of next-gen AI compute capacity, set to launch in 2027, benefiting major cloud providers. Despite Anthropic’s revenue lead, OpenAI poses a significant challenge, holding a larger user base of over 900 million weekly active users, which provides a notable data advantage. Analysts urge that as AI demand grows, Anthropic must scale its compute commitments while balancing current and future needs. Overall, both companies are expected to significantly influence corporate IT budgets and shape AI spending trends moving forward.
