Anthropic has launched a new feature called Claude Cowork, enabling non-developers to leverage its AI capabilities for automating tasks on their computers. This follows the development of Claude Code, which was initially designed for developers to streamline repetitive programming. Cowork allows users to grant Claude access to specific folders, enabling it to read, edit, or create files based on user instructions. Key use cases include organizing files and transforming receipt screenshots into spreadsheets. Additionally, with Claude’s Chrome plugin, it can navigate websites and interact with third-party apps like Canva. Users can queue tasks without needing to wait for Claude to finish each one, enhancing productivity. Despite potential concerns about granting system access, Anthropic assures users that Claude only interacts with designated files. Early access is available to Claude Max subscribers, while others must join a waitlist. This user-friendly tool aims to broaden AI’s applicability beyond just developers.
