Anthropic is enhancing its AI chatbot, Claude, with a new memory feature for paid subscribers that allows it to remember past conversations without user prompts. Max subscribers can activate this memory setting today, while Pro users will see the rollout in the coming days. Previously available to Team and Enterprise users, this memory functionality aims for complete transparency, letting users see and edit what Claude remembers. Users can specify which memories to focus on or forget, and maintain distinct memory spaces for different contexts, useful for separating personal and professional interactions. This update positions Claude closer to competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini, which have had such features for longer. Anthropic also plans to allow users to import memories from other chatbots to simplify transitions. However, the implementation of chatbot memory raises concerns about potential mental health issues, like AI psychosis, due to the risk of reinforcing delusional thinking.
