Apple has addressed Elon Musk’s claims regarding bias in the App Store favoring OpenAI’s ChatGPT, asserting that their platform is “fair and free of any bias.” In a statement from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple highlighted that the App Store features over a thousand apps, promoted through objective charts and expert-curated lists, ensuring safe app discovery for users and quality opportunities for developers.
Musk accused Apple of antitrust violations, alleging it hinders AI apps like his Grok from competing against ChatGPT, which he claims dominates the Must Have section. However, he has not presented any supporting evidence. In contrast, the AI app DeepSeek previously topped the charts, while Grok ranked fifth. Amidst this feud, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has challenged Musk’s assertions, suggesting algorithm manipulation on X.
As Apple faces a US Department of Justice antitrust lawsuit and appeals from the Epic Games case, the ongoing tensions among these tech leaders may have significant implications.
