Apple Could Integrate Google’s Gemini AI Assistant into Siri 2.0

Apple is reportedly in negotiations with Google to utilize its AI assistant, Gemini, for a revamped Siri, with plans to launch this transformation in 2026, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This move signals a potential shift towards collaboration in the tech giants’ rivalry, as they focus on competing with OpenAI. While talks are preliminary and separate from existing agreements that will introduce Gemini to iPhones by year-end, Apple is also developing internal models named Linwood and Glenwood, the latter incorporating external technology. Despite these efforts, delays in Siri’s development have prompted Apple to consider partnerships with AI leaders like OpenAI or Anthropic, as its own generative AI capabilities lag behind competitors such as Google and Meta. The urgency to enhance Siri follows a realization that Apple needs to accelerate its AI initiatives, ultimately aiming for a significant upgrade with Siri 2.0 by 2026.
