Apple is enhancing its collaboration with OpenAI while introducing new artificial intelligence features amidst growing investor dissatisfaction regarding updates to its Siri voice assistant. Announced at the 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), the new offerings include live translation in Messages, Phone, and FaceTime, facilitating communication across different languages. Starting with iOS 26, Apple will implement a visual intelligence feature that analyzes images and text on iPhone screens, allowing users to query ChatGPT for more information. However, the company’s cautious approach contrasts with competitors like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, who are rapidly adopting generative AI innovations. This measured strategy may lead to “strategic drift” for Apple, as it risks falling behind in the evolving AI landscape, relying heavily on consumer hardware and developer support.
