Apple Negotiates with Google to Enhance Siri’s Intelligence with Gemini AI

Apple’s AI initiatives face significant challenges, particularly with Siri’s functionality. The company is now considering partnerships, notably with Google, to enhance Siri’s capabilities. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has approached Google to develop a custom AI model, currently in training for Apple’s server infrastructure. This collaboration could lead to an updated Siri rollout by next year. Meanwhile, Apple is testing two versions of Siri: “Linwood,” utilizing internal models, and “Glenwood,” powered by external AI. Apple’s ongoing AI development aims to integrate seamlessly while prioritizing user privacy. Although previous collaborations with Google have raised antitrust scrutiny, a strategic partnership could strengthen Apple’s AI offerings without compromising its hardware and software focus. By allowing users to choose their preferred AI provider, Apple can create a cohesive experience that aligns with its core competencies, potentially mitigating privacy concerns while enhancing functionality.
