Apple Set to Generate Over $1 Billion from AI App Fees

Apple is poised to surpass $1 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) revenue by 2026, mainly through App Store fees for competitor apps like ChatGPT, which significantly boosted earnings in 2025. The generative AI sector contributed nearly $900 million to Apple’s revenue last year, showcasing the company’s adeptness in capitalizing on external AI developments rather than developing its own technologies. Apple’s earnings from AI apps rose from approximately $35 million in January 2025 to $101 million by August, supporting its broader services segment amidst total earnings of $416.2 billion. Analyst Charles Rinehart highlights Apple’s “toll road” model, allowing it to thrive without heavy infrastructure costs, contrasting with rivals investing significantly in cloud services. Challenges remain, such as competition from firms like Elon Musk’s xAI and the performance gaps with Siri. However, Apple’s market dominance positions it favorably amid ongoing AI market dynamics and rising enterprise spending.
