Apple to Launch AI App Store, Integrating Third-Party Chatbots into Siri

Apple is poised for a significant AI advancement with the anticipated launch of an upgraded Siri in iOS 27. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this revamped virtual assistant will incorporate Google’s Gemini models and potentially integrate third-party chatbots like Anthropic’s Claude through a new feature called “Siri Extensions.” This development aims to enhance Siri’s functionality while creating an AI App Store section within the existing App Store, allowing users to access various AI services and enabling Apple to earn commissions from third-party integrations. The introduction of this AI marketplace aligns with Apple’s strategy to capitalize on its hardware advantage amid challenges in developing proprietary AI models and retaining top talent. The new Siri, codenamed “Campo,” is expected to be unveiled at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8, 2026, with wider availability set for the release of the next iPhones in fall 2026.
