Apple to Rely on Google for Siri Overhaul: Gemini Poised to Power AI Assistant, Reports Indicate

Apple’s anticipated Siri revamp may leverage Google’s Gemini AI, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This update aims to enhance Siri’s capabilities and introduce a new AI web search feature. Despite competition from Anthropic’s Claude models, Apple reportedly chose Gemini for its financial viability. Currently, Google pays Apple to maintain its search engine as the default on iPhones, and Apple is investing in a custom Gemini model for its private cloud. Gurman reassures that this integration won’t saturate iPhones with AI as seen on Androids; instead, Siri will feature AI-driven functionalities while maintaining a distinct Apple interface. The revamped Siri is expected to launch in March 2024, alongside new smart home devices. Apple plans to showcase iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 during WWDC 2024, which will emphasize AI advancements. Additionally, Apple is gearing up for its 50th anniversary with various product launches, including the first foldable iPhone.
