A recent study by the Association of Argentine Journalism Entities (Adepa) reveals that nearly one-third of newsrooms in Argentina utilize artificial intelligence (AI) tools for routine journalism tasks. The report indicates that 29% of these outlets employ AI for writing and editing articles, while 38% use it for transcribing interviews, and 40% for producing audio summaries. Renowned media organizations like ClarÃn and Infobae are pioneering AI innovations, including virtual assistants like UalterAI for article summaries and ScribNews for automating the fact-gathering process. However, ethical concerns lead to limited use of AI image-generation tools. The study also highlights the lack of regulatory frameworks around AI in Argentina and emphasizes the need for fair compensation for news organizations whose content trains these AI models. Adepa advocates for developing AI protocols focused on human oversight, intellectual property protection, and transparency to enhance, rather than replace, traditional journalism practices.
