Macquarie University is embracing a cloud-first approach by migrating critical operations to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enhance digital capabilities for over 40,000 students and 3,000 staff. This digital transformation aims to achieve operational efficiencies, with an expected 40% reduction in licensing costs, while also benefiting from AWS’s generative AI capabilities like Amazon Bedrock. Recent partnerships, such as with MortarCAPS, address data management challenges in higher education, enabling better insights and personalised learning experiences.
At the AWS Summit in New York, innovations like Bedrock AgentCore were introduced, facilitating secure AI agent deployment at scale, alongside the US$100 million Generative AI Innovation Centre. The new Space Accelerator initiative in Australia supports startups in the space-tech sector, offering mentorship and funding. Additionally, AWS pledged to enhance digital workforce diversity in NSW, addressing a projected shortfall of 85,000 digital workers by 2030, while maintaining its commitment to sustainability through renewable energy initiatives.
