The Birbhum district police in West Bengal have launched “Samarth,” an AI-powered Android application designed to enhance the efficiency and legal accuracy of police work. Spearheaded by Superintendent Amandeep and SDPO Bolpur Rickey Agarwal, this innovative tool serves as a digital assistant for investigating officers and senior officials. Samarth is fueled by an in-house AI model trained on extensive legal texts, including relevant Acts and procedural guidelines. It simplifies complex legal issues by summarizing court judgments and providing instant, authoritative guidance in natural language, including Bengali and Hindi. This aims to ensure investigations are scientifically and legally sound. While the immediate impact includes saving time and reducing reliance on outdated resources, measurable outcomes like improved conviction rates will develop over time. Samarth is for internal use only and has been rolled out across various ranks, ensuring crucial support in the legal framework of policing.
