On Saturday, a BJP delegation lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) against the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for allegedly misusing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to disseminate misinformation ahead of the Nuapada bypoll. BJP leaders claimed that digital alterations of State BJP President Manmohan Samal and MLA Himanshu Sahu were manipulated using AI and shared on social media to deceive voters. BJP spokesperson Satyabrata Panda accused the BJD of resorting to unethical tactics due to election anxiety, urging the CEO to enforce cyber laws against the perpetrators. Panda emphasized the need for immediate action from the Election Commission to combat such misleading practices. In response, BJD dismissed the allegations, with leader Lenin Mohanty calling the BJP’s comments on cyber-crime hypocritical, asserting that the BJD’s social media presence remained culturally inclined while accusing the BJP of producing misleading AI-generated content.
