Hitachi Vantara recently unveiled its Hitachi iQ Time Machine technology at Computex in Taiwan, claiming to address the limitations of traditional AI models regarding data versioning. The technology enables “Time Aware AI,” which allows users to access multiple versions of data from different time periods, effectively overcoming the issue where current AI systems are limited to the most recent updates. Utilizing Blackwell GPUs and a robust data infrastructure, the Time Machine permits enterprises to roll back LLMs (Large Language Models) to access historical data, thereby addressing compliance issues and data changes over time. This innovation helps prevent the need for complete data re-embedding when inconsistencies arise. Hitachi’s CTO, Jason Hardy, emphasized the technology’s potential applications in managing sensitive customer data. However, the company is still determining how to market the feature, pondering whether to offer it for free or at a cost.

Google Launches AI-Driven ‘Search Live’ for Testing
Google is testing a new feature called “Search Live,” introduced during I/O 2025 and powered by Project Astra. This feature enables real-time conversations with Google and is accessible via a waveform icon beneath the Search bar, replacing the previous Google Lens shortcut. Users can also initiate Search Live through a new circular button during AI Mode interactions. The interface offers light and dark themes, a new ‘G’ logo, and options to “Mute” or obtain a “Transcript.” However, the transcript feature currently redirects to the AI text chat instead of providing live captions. After queries, users see a carousel of sources used for the answers, and Google can ask follow-up questions for clarification. Users can continue conversations even after exiting the app, similar to how Gemini Live initially rolled out. While the camera feature for video streaming is not yet available, Search Live is now rolling out to Google app users on both Android and iOS.

Unlocking Character.AI: Essential Insights on the Role-Playing AI Tool and Its Latest Video Features
Character.AI is a unique AI chatbot designed for entertainment, role-playing, companionship, and interactive storytelling, contrasting with traditional chatbots focused on productivity. Launched in November 2021 by former Google engineers, it currently caters to over 20 million monthly users, predominantly aged 18-24. Users can interact with AI versions of celebrities and historical figures, developing character personalities and customizing their responses. However, the platform faces criticism for potential risks, especially among younger audiences, such as AI addiction and the depiction of real people without authorization. Character.AI has introduced safety measures and age restrictions but has encountered lawsuits related to content generated by users. Recent updates include video creation tools and interactive games, enhancing user engagement. Experts warn that while such AI can foster creativity, it may also blur lines between virtual and real relationships, raising concerns about real-life social connections.

The New York Times Takes Legal Action Against OpenAI Over Data Utilization
OpenAI is appealing a court order that mandates the indefinite retention of user data due to privacy concerns and industry standards. The New York Times has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging the unauthorized use of its articles for training AI models and requesting that user data be stored indefinitely to gather evidence for the case. OpenAI’s COO, Brad Lightcap, criticized this demand, claiming it undermines user privacy protections. Despite the appeal, OpenAI must adhere to the court’s order in the interim, with a vetted legal team managing the stored data securely for legal purposes. This retention affects over 400 million weekly ChatGPT users across various plans, while Enterprise and Zero Data Retention users are excluded from this requirement.
