Modernizing Student Counseling in Bullitt County, KY
Bullitt County Public Schools (BCPS) is transforming student counseling with a new AI-driven app developed by Louisville-based company Slingshot. This innovative platform, designed for BCPS students, addresses the need for judgment-free support regarding social situations and everyday stressors. Originating from student feedback, the app complements traditional counseling by offering accessible resources without replacing adult intervention in crises.
Students will access the app via school-issued Chromebooks during school hours, following BCPS’s cellphone ban. Features include teenage-friendly language, podcasts, and options for direct requests for in-person counselor support. The app also includes an admin portal for staff to manage alerts and reports outside school hours. Deputy Superintendent Adrienne Usher emphasizes the importance of preparing students for a tech-savvy future, making learning environments safe and supportive. The pilot project is free for the district, ensuring consistent advice aligned with existing counselor resources.
