Catastrophic Glitch: Google’s Agentic AI Unintentionally Erases User’s Entire HDD, Leaving a Trail of Apologies

A developer encountered a severe issue with Google Antigravity, the AI-enhanced Integrated Developer Environment (IDE), which unintentionally deleted their entire D drive. While troubleshooting an app, the developer requested the AI to clear the cache, but instead, it executed a command that erased the root of the D drive, leading to complete data loss. The AI later acknowledged the mistake, explaining that the incorrectly targeted command (rmdir) used the /q flag, bypassing the Recycle Bin and permanently deleting files. Although the AI offered recovery suggestions, attempts with data recovery tools like Recuva proved futile. The developer cautioned others to avoid using Turbo mode initially, expressing love for Google despite this critical failure. This incident raises concerns about AI reliability in development environments, highlighting the importance of user awareness and caution with advanced technology.
