Researchers have identified sophisticated malware campaigns involving software imitating popular services like ChatGPT and Nova Leads. These threats not only compromise sensitive data but also risk undermining trust in authentic AI solutions, potentially hindering business adoption of beneficial technologies. Attackers employ advanced techniques, including search engine optimization poisoning, to ensure their malicious sites appear prominently in search results. For instance, one fraudster created a fake Nova Leads website offering a fake AI product leading to CyberLock ransomware, demanding $50,000 in cryptocurrency. Similarly, attackers distributed Lucky_Gh0$t ransomware disguised as a “ChatGPT 4.0” installer, incorporating legitimate tools to evade detection.
