OpenAI recently reported a surge in ChatGPT usage, with over 2.5 billion prompts generated daily worldwide. The United States contributes more than 330 million of these prompts, accounting for just over 13% of the global total. Notably, India is rapidly emerging as a significant market, claiming 13.5% of ChatGPT’s mobile app user base by April 2023, surpassing the U.S. at 8.9%. This indicates a growing adoption of generative AI tools among Indian users. ChatGPT now processes 20% of Google’s daily search volume, translating to approximately 912.5 billion prompts annually. This remarkable growth—from 1 billion to 2.5 billion prompts in just seven months—signals a transformative shift in information access. With over 500 million weekly active users, primarily on the free version, ChatGPT poses a serious challenge to Google, prompting incumbents to reconsider their strategies in the evolving landscape of AI-native search.
