Scientists in China have innovated an AI model to accelerate the classification of cosmic objects, overcoming the limitations of traditional spectroscopy, which struggles to manage the vast amounts of data from modern sky surveys. Their cutting-edge technology has successfully classified over 27 million stars, galaxies, and quasars by analyzing both morphological features and spectral energy distribution (SED). Led by researchers from the Yunnan Observatories, the model was trained on high-quality datasets and achieved remarkable accuracy, identifying 99.7% of stars and galaxies in tests against established catalogs. This advancement could revolutionize our understanding of the universe by uncovering hidden patterns and rare celestial entities, enhancing existing astronomical databases.
