Chinese Companies Race to Join the Robotaxi Boom with Advanced AI Models · TechNode

The competition in the China-US robotaxi sector is intensifying, as companies like Horizon Robotics and Deeproute.ai strive for breakthroughs in autonomous vehicle technology. Horizon Robotics plans partnerships with various robotaxi fleet operators and envisions its “Horizon SuperDrive” system as foundational for fully autonomous ride-hailing. Meanwhile, Deeproute.ai is developing robotaxis using its Vision Language Action model, shifting focus from 2019 sci-fi aspirations to practical advanced driver assistance systems. Both firms are leveraging emerging AI technologies to transition toward full autonomy, anticipating a driverless future in 5 to 10 years.

The Chinese robotaxi market is becoming increasingly competitive, with players like CATL, Momenta, and Xpeng Motors joining the fray. Analysts predict a significant market potential, with operational fleets potentially reaching 300,000 vehicles by the early 2030s. Despite government hesitance regarding autonomous vehicles, there’s optimism for regulatory progress that could further drive this booming $8 billion market.
