The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has issued a dire warning about a fraudulent mobile application called “Nepse AI.” This scam is proliferating on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, luring users with promises of lucrative stock market profits. The CIB warns that downloading this malicious app could provide scammers remote access to victims’ devices, enabling them to transfer funds and erase all data to cover their tracks. In a notable case, an individual lost Rs 2.86 million. To protect personal finances, the CIB advises the public to refrain from downloading unknown apps, especially those like “Nepse AI,” and to only use trusted sources like Google Play Store or App Store. Additionally, enabling two-factor authentication and routinely changing passwords can enhance digital security. Victims are urged to contact their bank or the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau immediately.
