Coast Guard Plans to Leverage AI for Enhanced Acquisition Pipeline

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) is researching commercial technologies and AI to enhance procurement efficiency. Under the Department of Homeland Security, the USCG faces challenges like reliance on manual workflows, limited visibility in processes, and inadequate knowledge management. To combat these issues, the USCG has issued a Request for Information (RFI) aimed at developing an “Acquisition Superhighway.” This initiative seeks to adopt tools like generative AI to streamline labor-intensive processes, improve scheduling, and cut costs. Key goals include enhancing enterprise knowledge management and addressing data quality issues in existing workflows. The USCG is particularly interested in foundational AI tools that can draft and review documents, provide decision support, and enhance workflow performance tracking. Industry responses to the RFI are due by November 25, as the Coast Guard aims to maximize the use of Commercial off-the-shelf software (COTS) and advanced technologies to modernize its acquisition processes.
