College Senior Creates AI Tool to Enhance Hospital Access in India

Prithvi Parthasarathy, a senior at Penn, developed an AI triage tool to enhance patient access at Aravind Eye Hospital in Madurai, India, during the Center for the Advanced Study of India’s 2025 summer internship program. As a neuroscience major with a minor in healthcare management, he integrated patient records for accurate referrals to specialists, addressing significant barriers like long wait times. Drawn by the desire for global healthcare experience and the hospital’s significance in his cultural home state, Parthasarathy observed patient challenges firsthand. Collaborating with statisticians and IT specialists, he created a scalable AI model aimed at streamlining hospital processes, which garnered interest from nearby healthcare facilities. His internship allowed him to leverage knowledge from his studies at Penn while striving to improve healthcare accessibility. Looking forward, Parthasarathy aspires to innovate within the healthcare system, prioritizing patient empowerment and accessibility. The CASI program also provides students with living stipends.
