Comparative Analysis of AI Chatbots’ Effectiveness in Addressing Dental Implant FAQs | BMC Oral Health

This study demonstrates significant differences in performance among five advanced AI chatbots—ChatGPT o1, Deepseek R1, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, Gemini Advanced, and Perplexity Pro—in addressing FAQs about dental implants, confirmed by one-way ANOVA results (p < 0.001). Metrics such as accuracy, completeness, clarity, relevance, and consistency were assessed, revealing that ChatGPT o1 excelled, especially in relevance and consistency. Despite advancements in natural language generation, some chatbots exhibited incomplete and superficial responses, especially regarding detailed medical inquiries. The findings underscore the potential of AI chatbots in enhancing patient engagement and education while highlighting the importance of equitable access, especially between paid and free models. Limitations such as the simplistic interaction model adopted in the study suggest a need for future research to explore more dynamic conversations and broader patient demographics. Overall, these insights advocate for integrating AI chatbots in dental practice to improve patient communication, emphasizing thorough regulatory frameworks to ensure ethical and accurate outcomes.
