Codex is tailored for experienced developers and requires the user to integrate their OpenAI API key into an environment variable to function. In a practical scenario, the author sought assistance from Codex to update contents between two JSON files regarding city information. The updates involved not only correcting texts and images but also creating an “imageintended” field for referencing unused images. Codex efficiently merged the files while preserving original image references and providing clear notes about the changes made. Unlike other tools, Codex showed a less intuitive “vibe coding” approach, demanding users know sed commands executed during the process. This raises questions about whether OpenAI will develop this project further or allow competitors to lead the space for now.
