Comparing Performance: Windows 11 Versus Ubuntu Linux on the AMD Ryzen AI Max PRO 390 “Strix Halo”

The HP ZBook Ultra G1a, equipped with an AMD Ryzen AI Max PRO 390 processor and and Radeon 8050S graphics, underwent performance comparisons between Windows 11 Pro and Ubuntu 25.04. Following previous findings that the AMD Strix Halo typically performs better on Linux, this evaluation aimed to quantify the differences on this particular workstation. Benchmark tests were conducted using both operating systems, incorporating various CPU and GPU tests with similar standards. The HP laptop, featuring 64GB of LPDDR5-8000 memory and a 2TB WD SN810 NVMe SSD, showcased its capabilities. The analysis provides insights into how this powerful device operates across differing platforms, building on previous AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 395 tests. Overall, the findings reaffirm the Linux preference for performance in this context, complementing earlier data.
