Midjourney has launched an AI image-to-video generator called V1, entering competition with other platforms like OpenAI’s Sora and Adobe’s Firefly. Currently accessible via Discord for $10/month subscribers, V1 allows users to animate their Midjourney images into four five-second videos. Users can choose between “automatic” and “manual” animation settings, with two styles available: high motion (dynamic movement) and low motion (static camera). Images can also be uploaded for animation. However, generating video is significantly pricier, costing eight times more than regular image creation, impacting monthly credit usage. The tool’s pricing remains uncertain as Midjourney gauges user patterns for sustainable business practices. Alongside these innovations, the startup faces legal challenges from Universal and Disney, who accuse it of plagiarism for using their iconic imagery. Despite this, Midjourney continues to express its ambitious vision for the future of real-time open-world simulations.
