Cyber Defenders’ Perspectives on AI Risks: Insights and Concerns

The 2025 Trend Micro Defenders Survey reveals the dual nature of AI in cybersecurity, emphasizing both risks and opportunities. Over 3,000 responses from 88 countries indicate that 26% of cybersecurity professionals prioritize combating AI-driven fraud and impersonation. Key areas of concern include data leaks and unauthorized AI usage, reflecting anxiety about responding to AI-based threats. Encouragingly, 15% of respondents are focusing on AI risk awareness training, while strategies like zero-trust architectures and data security posture management are employed for defense. However, proactive measures like regular AI audits are less common, with only 6% implementing them. Approximately 20% have yet to adopt AI tools due to concerns about accuracy and privacy. The survey underscores the necessity of integrating AI within broader cyber risk management strategies, emphasizing early involvement of security teams in AI adoption. For organizations, the challenge lies in aligning AI capabilities with business goals and effectively communicating within teams. Download the full report for deeper insights.
