Google is currently testing an experimental search app for Windows, aimed at optimizing user experience by allowing searches across both local files and the web. Titled “Google app for Windows,” this tool, part of Google’s Labs program, enables users to search without disrupting their current task by simply pressing Alt + Space. The innovative app integrates Google Lens for enhanced results, accessing files from Google Drive, installed applications, and local documents. While the app showcases AI capabilities, such as interpreting on-screen content and responding to queries, it does not officially carry the “Gemini” branding linked to Google’s AI initiatives. Currently, the app is available exclusively to U.S. users via personal Google accounts on Windows 10 and 11, with limited space in the Labs program. This development reflects Google’s ongoing efforts to merge search functionality with AI technology, enhancing productivity for users across various applications.
