With nearly 14 years of daily computer use, I’ve developed poor posture, leading to chronic neck and back pain. This issue is exacerbated by my mobile lifestyle, often working in non-ergonomic settings. To combat this, I started using Pose Nudge, a free, open-source Mac app designed to monitor posture through the webcam. Utilizing AI, it analyzes neck and shoulder alignment, providing real-time feedback and alerts when poor posture is detected. The app ranks my posture on a scale of 0-100 and creates comprehensive reports. Pose Nudge allows customization for notification frequency and sensitivity levels, enhancing user experience. While it’s not a complete solution, it encourages me to maintain better posture while working. Research underscores the health risks of prolonged computer usage and poor posture, highlighting the need for digital tools like Pose Nudge, alongside regular stretches and exercise, to mitigate musculoskeletal disorders resulting from sedentary work environments.
