Google is enhancing Maps in India with its artificial intelligence tool, Gemini, to improve navigation and safety features. Initially launched in the US, Gemini offers hands-free assistance and contextual suggestions for users while navigating local points of interest. Miriam Daniel, VP of Google Maps, highlighted the significance of localization, which includes understanding local inquiries, street names, and languages. In the coming weeks, Gemini will support nine Indian languages on both Android and iOS platforms. The app will provide audio and visual alerts for accident-prone areas in collaboration with local authorities, starting in regions like Gurugram and Hyderabad. Google Maps has faced criticism after a tragic incident in UP, prompting calls for caution while driving. Additionally, the app will deliver real-time updates on road construction, amenities, traffic disruptions, and display speed limits across major cities, enhancing the overall user experience in navigating India’s complex driving landscape.
