Toledano expertly utilizes AI to create surreal images reminiscent of the 1940s and 1950s, making history “visually editable.” The book features absurd yet humorous anecdotes, like the fictionalized portrayal of Margaret Thatcher’s face carved into the white cliffs of Dover and a village lit by bioluminescent jellyfish. Although entertaining, Toledano questions the implications of AI in shaping narratives, warning that it can validate falsehoods with convincing imagery. He asserts, “AI allows us to create the world we desire,” highlighting a pressing concern about the normalization of manipulated realities. Overall, Another England offers a satirical yet poignant commentary on contemporary society, art, and the role of technology in shaping perceptions.
